We have a boat!
November 2008
If you have read about our survey in Florida (see Boat
Shopping), which took place in October, you already know that we decided to buy this
lovely Tayana 37, which we will rename ANAM
CARA (Gaelic for "Soul Friend"). We are thrilled and absolutely delighted to
finally be boat owners!!

Anam Cara
Tayana 37s are built in Taiwan (this one was built in 1985), which is reflected in the stunning teak interior woodwork, which makes this boat so very homey and beautiful. Tayana literally means "of the big ocean", which attests to its stoutness and strength. It is a full keeled boat, with a cutaway forefoot, and has a cutter rig. All these features make the boat seakindly and seaworthy. Many of these boats have sailed far and wide, and for many they are the epitomy of a cruising sailboat! (Of course there are as many opinions about this as there are sailors, but now that we have made the choice, we will stick to that opinion, even if we really haven't tested out the theory yet!) Robert Perry designed, these boats were built with long distance cruising in mind: ample storage, a lovely large V-berth, a good sized galley and a comfortable interior. Our boat even has a seperate shower stall (a great luxury!)! How much we will actually be able to fit into a 37 foot sailing boat remains to be seen - I am already eyeing all the books, clothes, cooking supplies and medical gear we are wanting to take, and wondering where we are going to fit it all in... But all in all, all we really need do is add a few more improvements to the boat, and learn all its ins and outs, and we will be ready to go!!! Yippeee!!!
